Inversnaid Supplement Explained

Why is there an additional charge for Inversnaid?

Some locations along the West Highland Way are more difficult to access than others — and Inversnaid is one of them.

Unlike most stops on the route, Inversnaid does not have direct road access along the trail, which means transporting luggage there requires additional logistics, time, and cost.

While walkers cover around 7 miles along the loch, our vehicles must travel a much longer road route to reach Inversnaid and continue onward — resulting in approximately 100 additional miles of driving for a single overnight stay.

What makes Inversnaid different?

Inversnaid sits on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond and is only accessible by:

  • a long diversion off the main route
  • or via ferry crossing and coordination
  • or limited access roads with restricted entry points

This makes baggage delivery significantly more complex compared to other locations on the trail.

What does the supplement cover?

The £15 per bag supplement helps cover:

  • additional travel time and fuel
  • ferry or access coordination (where required)
  • extended delivery routes
  • operational complexity for remote delivery

This ensures your luggage still arrives safely and on time, even in one of the most remote parts of the route.

Can I avoid the supplement?

Yes — if you prefer, you can choose nearby locations with easier access such as:

  • Rowardennan
  • Inverarnan

These locations do not require the same level of logistical support.
